One of the largest independent plastic retailers in South Africa turns to SAP Business One to control stock and gain critical business insight
The Plastics Warehouse, founded in 2000, has developed into one of the leading plastic warehouse wholesalers/retailers in the country. The number of stores has grown to seven, with stores in the Western Cape, Gauteng, Bloemfontein and Eastern Cape.
The Plastics Warehouse stocks a comprehensive range of plastic-ware, much larger than most national chain-store retailers in Southern Africa. They are known for their selection, service and price. Although core lines are plastic, many other products are also available, typically to complement their core lines. The range covers office equipment, cleaning, outdoor, leisure, kitchenware, toys, storage, stationery, garden and other household items. There are also extensive industrial/commercial ranges.
The various subsystems previously used resulted in the need for an integrated ERP system that could tie the various business functions together. Increased productivity was achieved through stricter financial and operational disciplines, optimising stock and reducing static stock levels. “Cistech and SAP Business One provided the seamless integrated system we needed to move our business forward. It covers the selling/point of sale (POS) process, the buying/ordering process, accounting functionality and real time business insight we needed.” Demetre Nikolopoulos, Managing Director, The Plastics Warehouse.
The core solution recommended for The Plastics Warehouse was the SAP flagship product for the SME (small to mid-size enterprise) market, SAP Business One. Our initial understanding of The Plastics Warehouse’s requirements, led us to believe that the standard functionality offered by the software provided a close fit against their key requirements. Cistech Point-of-Sale meets all POS requirements and the Valogix Inventory Planner automatically forecasts future demand, sets stocking levels, creates replenishment orders and optimizes inventory.
The benefits of choosing a tried, tested and reputable SAP ERP Solution designed specifically for the small to midsize business (SAP Business One), became almost immediately visible:
- Stock and sales cubes provided an opportunity to clean up master data and remove old and duplicate stock item codes
- SAP Business One Alerts inform authorised staff when stock levels have dropped below their minimum level so they can replenish before running out of stock
- The insight, dissection and analysing capabilities of SAP Business One allows them to enhance the decision making process. This enables them to make informed decisions based on real-time and accurate data
- Automation and control – live point of sale transactions are posted directly into the general ledger without manual intervention and item master control and price changes are fully controlled and easy to analyse
- A company-wide standardised approach to store inventory planning and a fully integrated POS, stock and financial solution resulted in increased staff efficiencies and managerial control
“Retail is forever changing and to find a system that can give you quick and accurate information is imperative. The need for better buying and margin control was also addressed” Demetre Nikolopoulos, Managing Director, The Plastics Warehouse.
The Plastics Warehouse SAP Business One implementation included 5 stores, as well as their head office, that was completed in a 6 week cycle. Prior to go-live, each store had a complete stock take, which revealed over 20,000 distinct line items that were cleaned and organised – removing duplicate and unwanted data. Through the integration, automation and simplification of business processes, they experienced a 90% reduction in purchase order processing time. Through the rapid adoption of the system by employees The Plastics Warehouse started experiencing the benefits of SAP Business One almost immediately.
